Note 1. These ranks were of Turkish origin dating from the time when Egypt was a province of the Ottoman Empire.

Note 2. The ranks Miralai and Kaimakam received the honorary title of Bey and, Ferik and Lewa that of Pasha.
(주 2. Miralai와 Kaimakam 의 계급을 갖는 인원에 대해서는 Bey라는 경칭을 붙여주었고, Ferik과 Lewa의 계급을 갖는 인원에 대해서는 Pasha라는 경칭을 붙여줌 (대략 영어권에서 이름에 Sir나 Lord등을 붙여주는 것에 해당 됨). )
Note 3. After the Nasserite revolution of 1952 and the fall of the last of the Mohamed Ali dynasty (King Farouk) all ranks were changed to an Arabic equivalent. However, in the Sudan Defence Force they remained unchanged until Independence in 1956.
